Throughout this week, I plan on making a number of "behind the scenes" improvements to this discussion board. While doing so, I'd also like to take the time to listen in on some of your suggestions, if you have any.

As such, I have created this "suggestions thread" to audit the community by asking you guys these rhetorical questions:

  • Is there anything we could do to better the forum? Not just in terms of organization, but in terms of the actual software. Not only am I responsible for optimizing the way that this forum is delivered to clients, however I'd like to improve the actual forum down the line, just like we've improved it during these past three years. This means asking "what kind of features could we add?", "is there anything making life harder for us?", and "how can we introduce new people to this platform?"
  • What's the quality of conversations/posts currently like? I'd like to get a feel for whether or not the majority of participants believe that the quality of conversations, or individual posts, has genuinely improved over time. If you guys believe that we could do better, what steps could we take to encourage high-quality discourse?
  • Finally, how much do you guys enjoy posting on this site? There's just not much to expand on this one: do you enjoy using geteso, and if not, what can we do to make the experience more engaging for our audience? After all, making sure that our users are having a good time is the ultimate goal of a discussion board with no particular topic.

I hope that we can get something moving along with this conversation, and can't wait to see what you guys have to say! :)

One thing that could be changed that I can think of is having the ability to see all conversations. Because if you want to find old conversations you have to search for them. Maybe this is intentional design, so that people cannot go down to really old conversations and bump them to the top.

The quality of posts and conversations is just fine. geteso posts and conversations have always been "shitposts." You can go back and look at older conversations and see that the forum quality hasn't decreased since its inception. Spam threads with no real content have always existed and always will. Of course having real conversations that are actually about something real is good. The forum quality is all good though.

This one is a bit of a no-brainer especially for me. Of course I enjoy posting on the site! I must admit I seem to be hopelessly sucked in by the site. You're asking the person who made up like two thirds of the site's traffic before the centipede crack down if they enjoy posting. I post and post until posts are posts. The posts practically post themselves. I am a poster and it is enjoyable.

Great website, I cannot and will not stop posting. If I come up with any good ideas for the forum I will be sure to pass them on to you. :)

Thanks for making this thread.

In terms of the actual software, it's top notch, and I can't think of anything we could do to improve it. In terms of organization and the actual people who post here, I still think there's a lot we could do to deter samefagging and encourage higher-quality discussions.

This is where you're mistaken, Mr. Hitler. The quality of posts on this site hasn't been decreasing because they've suddenly become shitposts. You are correct: this site has always contained "shitposts," but in the past, they were legitimate discussions comprised of multiple users instead of one person talking to himself over and over again. Samefagging leads to low-quality conversations because it is easy to point out, and does not bring about anything insightful (you don't learn anything from talking to yourself).

Those are my two cents.

You overestimate the amount of samefagging. I've been far reduced in size.

Video formats like .mp4 & .webm would be a cool addition.

This has been in the back of my head for quite some time.

First, I'd like to add image uploading, which would allow users to drag an image over the text box or click a button in order to "upload" it. After that, I'd consider support for uploading videos.

If you're talking about embedding videos from other sources, that would be rather simple and something I'd be more than happy to add.

Because the forum is beginning to support a global audience, perhaps we should consider offering support for languages besides English. I am aware that the administrator could supply academic translations for Dutch and Afrikaans, although some oversight might be necessary. As more bilingual users stumble across our community, we can introduce new languages.

We are beginning to enter the "late-stage" phase of development where no immediate suggestions are coming about, so perhaps this is something that we can consider.

I don't speak any foreign languages, but I think this sounds like a good idea.

The second most popular non-Anglicized user-base on a board we probably shouldn't mention is German. Considering we're running ads there, having German language support might not be a terrible idea.

agreed its tiresome trying to find links to videos that you have saved
or not having access to them at all.

but video embedding has already been added, like admin said?

its hard to find the link for them, it becomes frustrating, which makes it easier to just upload from your folders.

oh, okay. i just couldn't understand exactly what you were suggesting.

i don't think canadian.user was suggesting that at the time. instead, they were probably suggesting video support in general.

We need a mac and cheese esoForum skin. Several people have asked for it over the years.

I'll be sure to start working on language packs for Dutch and Afrikaans. I'd also welcome support from any of our users who are bilingual and willing to chip in a few accurate translations for some of the messages around here.

I agree, 4chan is good but it's a big website, so we can try something that recieves less traffic but isn't filled with normalfags. YTMND or SomethingAwful, maybe a thread could be created in one of the subforums (which is the first place moot posted the link to 4chan when he finished it).

This is from another conversation however I'd like to reference it here seeing as it is still a suggestion and I'm going to go through with it. :)

Once the site grows enough (so this is something that could be added in the future) multiple subforums could be added? I'm not sure if this fits the image the Admins have in mind for the site but if it does it isn't a bad idea.

The site is a single homepage site, so far we have no need for separate categories. The discussion can be about anything at all, it's not limited to any certain topics. As the site grows, who knows, maybe we will need sub boards. I doubt it's anything that'll be added anytime soon. It's not a terrible idea though. The single homepage is kind of one of the things that makes geteso unique though.

i like this place and wanna see it grow so its cool to have these kinds of threads

i do like the concept of a single page, its unique, do you think there will ever be a need for containment boards? if there really is minimal moderation than its possible that this could turn into /b/ all over again

I agree with this, I just think that in the future if the site grows enough where the home page is clogged subforums could be possible. Or, adding on to the current tags option, users would have to select pre-set tag(s) before creating a thread so users can sort by these tags if they choose.

i also think if you wanna see this site grow having ads on 4chan is a good idea, people on that site are looking for forums that arent shit, i came from /int/ myself
